Part II:  More information on projects included in the 2018 referendum – renovations to

Culinary arts classroom/labs, auditorium and athletic fields

The additional $.30 per $100,000 included within the mill rate of $8.21 provides the funding for the following projects.  Work would begin on the projects in the summer of 2019.  A 5-year loan would be secured to cover the costs. Loan payments would be made each year of the referendum period making ELG debt-free once again in 2024.

Performing Arts Auditorium Renovation:  The auditorium is in need of renovation due to its age, layout and size.  To become ADA compliant, the slope of the auditorium needs to be modified which involves removal/abatement of the existing flooring, cutting the concrete foundation to get the desired slope and adding polish to these new concrete floors. With this new floor design, additional seating will be created.   New fully-padded seats will be added to the auditorium and the stage flooring will be updated to have a “wood insert.”  Sound boards will be added, the lights will be changed to LED with dimmers, a projector and new curtains will be installed and the divider wall between the auditorium and the cafeteria will be refinished.

Culinary Arts Classroom/Lab Stations:  The District’s culinary arts program has grown significantly in recent years to meet the demands of the students’ interest as well as the community’s hospitality and food service workforce.  With the exception of the one professional culinary kitchen added in 2011-12, the classroom/lab stations have not been updated since the original construction in 1968.  The space will be redesigned to provide for a teacher demonstration area and additional storage.  New cabinetry, ceilings, appliances, fixtures, sink piping and additional power sources will be installed.

Football/Soccer Athletic Field:  The lighting and bleachers are over 50 years old and in need of replacement.   Working with Meurmann Engineering, it was recommended to remove the existing poles and fixtures as they are at the end of their life span and replace them with LED lighting which would improve energy efficiency.  A new power panel, underground wiring to the poles, and new properly sized wiring to the existing press box would be installed.  The bleachers would be replaced to improve safety and address the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) as ramps would make them accessible to disabled persons and wheelchair seating would be provided.  In addition, a newly installed “pathway” from the parking lot to the bleacher area would allow for easier access for allspectators.

Part III:  Potential Additional Maintenance Projects under 2018 referendum –

Projects done on as “pay as you go” basis w/ work being done as funds allow

The philosophy of ELGS has been to continually make facility and technology improvements as the budget allows.  With the exception of major projects, such as the roofs and HVAC, these have been done on a “pay as you go” basis.  As this has worked well in the past, as a District we would like to continue this practice.

The following are examples of possible projects that could occur under the referendum time frame: Abatement/replacing of remaining h.s. flooring, renovating the lower level bathrooms by the elementary gym, updating the fire alarm system in the elementary/middle school, installing new window on the 4thgrade floor, replacing the elementary breaker panel, updating the hot water heaters and updating the District’s WiFi infrastructure.
