Academic Career Planning
EL-G has aligned with the Academic and Career Planning (ACP) curriculum for middle and high school students to support all students for whatever pathway they choose beyond high school. At each grade level, students are given the opportunity to reflect on these components with a variety of lessons, activities, exposures, and experiences within ELGHS curriculum.
Academic Standards / Programs
Academic standards are an essential element of the educational program. Standards provide clear statements about what students must know and be able to do and are critical to ensuring academic success. They serve as goals for both teaching and learning. In addition, standards also help parents understand what is expected of their children. Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah School District bases their educational program standards on the Wisconsin Academic Standards.
PI-26 and Resources
Beginning with the 2017-2018 school year in the state of Wisconsin, every school board and district is required to provide academic and career planning services to students in grades 6-12 enrolled in the district. In addition under PI 26, school boards and districts must meet the following requirements:
- Develop a long-range plan with school district staff and community stakeholders.
- Publish the plan on the school district’s website.
- Review the plan yearly.
This plan must address:
- Local, regional, and state market needs.
- Education and training requirements for occupations that will fill labor market needs.
- Process to engage parents regarding ACP services provided and opportunities to participate.
- Description of career and technical education (CTE) programming available, staff professional development for ACP delivery, and how school district will meet education for employment program requirements.
- Strategy to engage business, post-secondary education, and workforce development
What is Career Cruising
What is the Career Cruising Parent Portal?
The Career Cruising Parent Portal is a centralized dashboard that allows you to keep in touch with your son or daughter’s Academic and Career Planning process. As the parent or guarding of a child with a Career Cruising account, you can:
- View your child’s goals, interests, achievements, and experiences
- Track your child’s plans and progress
- Provide feedback to your child and his or her teachers and advisors
- Receive messages from your child’s school
- Explore Career Cruising to learn more about career and education options
How do I access the Career Cruising Parent Portal?
In order to create a Parent Portal account, you will need an activation code. The activation code should be 8-characters long, including both letters and numbers, e.g. A1b2C3dr. An activation code can be used only once.
You can obtain an access code from your child: Your son or daughter can send you an email invitation with an access code. Once you have received your activation code, you can create your account at:
Global Education
The Global Education Achievement Certificate (GEAC) is an honor that students can achieve to graduate from ELGHS as a Global Scholar. The Wisconsin Department of Instruction oversees the implementation of the GEAC in 64 schools throughout the state, and we are proud to be able to offer this to our students as the global focus gathers steam in our nation. Though there are relatively few schools offering this prestigious honor, the need for globally-focused graduates from our high schools is apparent as our society shifts rapidly to the global scale.

- International exchange as an exchange student and/or host - Typically AFS has students that need long- OR short-term housing!
- For information on having an international experience without leaving home, consider hosting a Department of State- sponsored exchange student. Learn more at hosting.state.gov
- Travel abroad program or educational tour: The Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Abroad Program
- Regular, direct communication with individuals from other countries/cultures (pen pals / e-pals, Skype, etc.)
- Internationally themed programs/competitions
- Attendance at college/university international programs
- Language immersion programs (e.g., Concordia Language Villages or locally-sponsored programs)
- Organizing and running internationally themed events (student proposal to GEAC administrator necessary in advance)
- Lectures on international topics and/or speakers in the community or at a college/university
- Comparable activities to those listed above (individual or in collaboration with other individuals or organizations)
- Various clubs and opportunities exist at our school. Currently we offer programs such as AFS, FCCLA, and World Language Club (which offers the ability to travel abroad). We also have opportunities for participation in Model UN, Global Youth Summit, and other globally-focused activities that become available to students.
Proposals for student-created opportunities for co-curricular activities will also be considered if submitted to the GEAC Coordinator for approval prior to use as evidence for this component.
Community Service
Since the community of which we are a part is a global one with the influx of people from all over the world during the 'resort' season and with the proximity to Road America, there is a large interest in all things global here. A creative GEAC candidate in Elkhart Lake has a world of opportunity open to them for community service projects.
Some resources for GEAC candidates to look into as a part of their globally-focused community service project(s) include:
- United Way of Sheboygan County
- Safe Harbor or similar domestic violence shelters in the area
- The Generation Center of Plymouth (also Head Start)
- our own elementary and middle school to work students (and their families) who are English language learners
- Also within our own high school community, there are connections to a family that owns a non-profit organization that works to save albino children in Africa. A GEAC candidate would have access to the leaders of that organization to collaborate on a project to benefit ZeruZeru.
A proposal of the global community service project, along with timeline for the minimum 20 hours, will be submitted to Mrs. Corbin and Mr. Faris for approval toward the GEAC prior to the implementation of said project.
All hours must be completed by April of the GEAC candidate's graduation year.
